The Global Wales Postgraduate Scholarships programme offers worth up to £10,000 to study full–time master’s programme in Wales. The scholarships are available to students from Vietnam, India, the USA, Canada, and countries of the European Union. This prestigious scheme is the first scholarship of its kind in Wales and is offered by the Global Wales programme, a partnership between the Welsh Government, Universities Wales, The British Council, and HEFCW, and is funded by Taith.
Host Institution(s)
Applicants can send up to three applications to different Welsh universities, providing he/she has applied for the courses and universities that are seeking a scholarship. The institutions include:
- Aberystwyth University
- Bangor University
- Cardiff University
- Cardiff Metropolitan University
- Swansea University
- University of South Wales
- University of Wales Trinity St David
- Wrexham Glyndwr University.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this year’s Global Wales Postgraduate scholarships, you must;
- Have submitted an application to study an eligible postgraduate programme at one of the following Welsh Universities listed above.
- Must be due to start your postgraduate programme in September 2023
- Be classed as an overseas student for fee payment purposes;
- Be a citizen of one of the following countries in Europe; Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Irland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, and Spain or any of the following rest of the world; USA, Canada, India, and Vietnam. The number of scholarships is not specified.
Scholarship Value/Award
Each scholarship is worth up to £10,000 towards the cost of tuition fees for one year of a postgraduate master’s programme. Any additional costs and expenses are the responsibility of the student.
Scholarships will be given in the form of a tuition fee discount and are non-transferable, no cash alternative will be offered.
If the amount of scholarship awarded is more than the cost of the tuition fees, the tuition fees will be covered in full any remainder will not be issued.
Universities Wales reserves the right to update or amend scholarship awards without notice, based on the availability and quality of applications that are received.
How to Apply
To be considered for the scholarships, you will need to have submitted an application to study at your university. You will need to include your University application number in your scholarship application. The scholarship application form must be submitted online on or before the 31st day of May 2023 before the September 2023 entry.
All sections of the online application form must be completed and submitted by the relevant deadline. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Note: If you receive an offer of a scholarship, you will be asked to review and sign a scholarship contract. Failure to return the documentation by the set deadline will be tantamount to the University giving the admission opportunity to someone else.

Yes, you will need to have submitted an application to study at your university before your scholarship application can be considered. You will need to include your University application number with your scholarship application. Applications submitted with invalid application numbers will not be considered.
There is a limit of a maximum of three applications per student, and students will need to have applied for all the courses and universities that they are seeking a scholarship.

CAN I STUDY PART-TIME?
Unfortunately, the Global Wales Postgraduate Scholarships are not open to those studying part-time.
CAN I STUDY BY DISTANCE LEARNING?
To be eligible for a scholarship, you must be intending to study full-time on campus in Wales. In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, where local government restrictions mean that you are unable to travel to Wales, you may in some cases be able to begin your studies online, before arriving on campus when you are able.
DO I NEED TO SUPPLY ANY OTHER DOCUMENTATION WITH MY APPLICATION?
No, but your chosen Welsh university may refer to your academic application to study when review in your scholarship application.
I HAVE BEEN AWARDED A SCHOLARSHIP FROM MY UNIVERSITY AND/OR ANOTHER SOURCE, CAN I ALSO APPLY FOR THE GLOBAL WALES SCHOLARSHIP?
